J. Gary Evans, MD

J. Gary Evans, MD, FACE is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He received his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1987. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland in 1990, where he also had the honor of serving as Chief Medical Resident. In 1993 he completed his Fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Maryland. Dr. Evans is a native Floridian and has been in private practice in Jacksonville, Florida since 1993.

David R. Sutton Jr., MD

Co-founder Diabetes Management Partners & GlyCare

David R. Sutton, Jr, MD, FACE is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He received his medical degree at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in 1987. He returned home to Jacksonville, FL to complete his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Florida in 1992. Dr. Sutton has served as Division Chief of Endocrinology for both St. Vincent's Medical Center and Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida from 2008-present.

Drs. Evans and Sutton have been in partnership since 1997 and have a combined 50 years experience in endocrinology. They actively provide expert diabetes care at four hospitals in Jacksonville, Florida. Together they founded Diabetes Management Partners and GlyCare to enhance diabetes management in hospitals nationwide.


Guillermo Umpierrez

MD Medical Advisory Board

Guillermo Umpierrez is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Emory University, and Staff Member and Director of the Clinical Research Center at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

He served as the 2022 President for Medicine & Science of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). He has received of numerous teaching awards including Best Clinical Teacher and Mentor at Emory University as well as national awards from the American College of Physicians, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Endocrine Society, Diabetes Science Technology and the American Diabetes Association.

Dr Umpierrez research interests include the mechanisms for beta-cell dysfunction in minority populations with diabetes, prevention of acute and chronic diabetic complications and hospital management of patients with diabetes and hyperglycemia. He is a clinician scientist with extensive experience in conducting clinical and population research in diabetes and metabolic disorders. He has served as the principal investigator in several landmark clinical trials in the hospital management of diabetes in critical and noncritical care settings. His contribution to clinical research and diabetes has been recognized by major societies, which invited me to chair and serve as Board of Directors Member of the ADA, Endocrine Society and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Chairman of the Endocrine Society Guideline Committee in diabetes, and ADA Professional Practice Committee.

He is the author of more than 500 scientific manuscripts and book chapters, and has presented over 400 research abstracts at national and international scientific meetings. In addition, he is the director of the Emory Latino Diabetes Education Program, a nationally accredited Spanish diabetes education program dedicated to providing diabetes education to those of Latin­American descent.
